Les Attwood's Summer Holiday 2000

In the summer of 2000 I took a summer vacation that consisted of a 14 day motor coach tour sold by Rostad Tours Ltd of Calgary, Alberta. The tour was sold, hosted, and at least partially developed by the Rev. Dr. Randy Crozsman of Fairview United Church in Brantford Ontario. Rev. Dr. Crozsman is the minister of the church I attend. It started on Monday, July 10, 2000 with a flight from Toronto to Frankfurt Germany, and concluded on Monday, July 24th. On past vacations I have crossed the Atlantic Ocean on the Cunard QE2 cruise ship from New York City to Southampton England. I thought what a great idea it would be to do the crossing the other way just once and so looked into this possibility. With the help of Colleen of Brantford Travel Centre (now Brantford Worldwide Travel Limited) I discovered that a west bound crossing left Southampton on July 25th. All I had to do was get from Frankfurt Germany (where the tour both started and ended) to Southampton. After a minor problem with the logistics of getting there (thanks to the people at Rostad for noticing that) it was arranged and booked. I choose to stay an extra day in New York City and again with Colleens help decided to return to Brantford by train on August 2nd, 23 days after departure.

For the first 14 days of the trip (the Rostad Tour part) I have created a map showing the route taken. See below:

As you can see there are a number of coloured lines. Each one of these lines represents a travel day of the tour. The tour structure usually was travel one day and then a stay for 2 nights in the next stop. The first day was different but the rest followed this pattern. On each travel day this map appears on the page for that day and there is and explanation of the route, the colour of the line for that days route, and any major stops along the way.

Below is an index of the pages of this site. The 14 day tour has a page for each day. The almost 6 days of the cruise on the QE2 is on a single page, with New York on 2 pages and the return trip on the last page. Click on any link below to go to the page you want. Each page has a 'go to the next day' link at the bottom.

A Personal Note...

I decided to do this web site about 3 weeks ago because so many people said they wanted to hear how the trip went and one even said she travels vicariously through other peoples trips. With all this interest I thought this would be a good way to show you all how it was. I did not realize just how long it would take and how much work it would be. There were a few times I almost stopped due to the many frustrations associated with this process. However, 256 graphic files and 20 web pages later it is finally completed and I hope you like it. I do apologize for any errors you may find (especially to those of you who were on the Rostad Tour with me) as well as any spelling mistakes (the spelling checker in this program is not the best). If you have have any comments (either positive or negative) you can send them to me at lattwood@sympatico.ca .
