Vacation 2004
Wednesday, October 27th
Tuesday, November 9th

2004's vacation consisted of a flight to London, England. After spending a few days there, I travelled to Southampton to board the new Queen Mary 2 on her final Transatlantic crossing of her first year in service. After arriving in New York City, I spent a couple of days there, saw an early performance of the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular, took a side trip to Philadelphia, PA to see what is currently the worlds largest playable pipe organ located in a department store. After all this, I returned home by train to Brantford.

It has taken me just a bit less than 5 months since the trip to get a chance to create this site so my recollection of some details (and most peoples names,) will not be as good as some of the other trip web sites that I've created previously. I prefer to do these much closer to the end of the trip but circumstances conspired against me this time.

As I've done on previous trip sites, I will use this page to thank those involved in the planning and execution of this trip. First, and foremost, is Colleen Renton, CTC, of Brant Heritage Travel Associates who put all the pieces together (yet again) in her usual fast, friendly and efficient manner. We have just completed the planning and booking of the October/November 2005 trip which includes Las Vegas, San Diego and a Holland America cruise to Hawaii. Colleen can be reached through e-mail at or by phone at 519-759-1990.

Other thanks to Airlink Transportation, British Airways, Hilton Hotels (both London and New York), Amtrak and Via Rail Canada whose conductor and station staff were most help full when a train connection was missed due to no fault of theirs.

Special thanks to Cunard (for the surprise upgrade to a Penthouse Suite) and all the staff of the Queen Mary 2, Captain Paul Wright, and especially Butler Francesca, Cabin boy Purdy, waitress Liz, and waiters Stephen and Vascant of the Queens Grill restaurant. Also thanks to fellow passengers of table 53 (I think is was) in the Queens Grill Restaurant, most of who's names I cannot now remember. One who I can is Robert (Bob) Murphy of Staten Island, New York who was completing his 37th day on QM2 after a round trip New York to Southampton, as well as a Mediterranean cruise.

Thanks as well to the unnamed organ technician at Lord and Taylor in Philadelphia for answering all the questions about the Wanamaker Grand Court Organ housed there. It was most interesting to see and hear it at one of its almost daily concerts.

As with the previous vacation web sites, this one is organized chronologically, starting on Wednesday, October 27th with a page for each day until my return on November 9th. An index with links to each page is included below for direct access to any day of the trip, if you are just interested in a specific location or date. There are also links on each page so you can work your way through from beginning to end if you wish. Many viewers seem to like viewing these vacation web sites this way.
